GUITAR WOODS: PAU FERRO

Guitar woods pau ferro

Pau Ferro (Machaerium villosum or schleroxylon) originates from Bolivia and Brazil and is pretty close in structure and appearance to rosewood, to which it represents a fine alternative.

The tree grows to a height of 30mt with a 1.5mt diameter. Weight is very high though, reaching even 880kg/mt3.

Also known as Bolivian rosewood, Pau ferro has become very popular among manufacturers and luthiers during the last decade.

Even if not a true rosewood, Pau ferro shares with this wood many characteristics, the like's of hardness, stability, and resistance to wear, and it also boasts a very nice looking essence.
