GUITAR WOODS: PAU FERRO

Pau Ferro (Machaerium villosum or schleroxylon) originates from Bolivia and Brazil and is pretty close
in structure and appearance to rosewood, to which it represents a fine alternative.
The tree grows to a height of 30mt with a 1.5mt diameter. Weight is very high though, reaching even 880kg/mt3.
Also known as Bolivian rosewood, Pau ferro has become very popular among manufacturers and luthiers during the last decade.
Even if not a true rosewood, Pau ferro shares with this wood many characteristics, the like's of hardness, stability,
and resistance to wear, and it also boasts a very nice looking essence.
